How to Fly

Good Day
Despite being on vacation mode and driving 90% of my concern into how to make my Meez look like it was in Oahu, I was on fire today at work! The last conference call that rounded off my last half hour before getting my hair did was phenomenal. Makes me unafraid to proclaim, "Yes, I am the pitch bitch."

In anticipation of the kind of mood I want to be in for the next sixdays, I'm sitting here as nine Sublime albums make their way onto mycomputer. I don't mean for this to be an insensitive use of words, butI'm all set with the ultimate airplane arsenal.

Airplane Reading
I had to scour through various multiple drug and grocery stores in two cities, but I finally found a copy of the power issue of Vogue (with Jennifer on the cover), albeit torn and on a measly rack in a closet of a liquor store. At least the guy gave me a 30-cent discount because of the damage. Or maybe it was my charm...

I've also got a copy of Wired.

Round that off with Danielewski's House of Leaves, and you've got yourself... My "one personal item."

Coiffed
My hair is curly. Curly like Kat and Portia, yes. Fitting for me? I'm not sure yet. This Asian Perm 2007 hasn't proven to be my best impulse decision yet, but I'm not disappointed - or discouraged, either. I'm so nonchalant when it comes to hair. I wanted to capitalize on its all-time-record length, but leaving it straight and clean wasn't enough. It's just too plain. I can't have plain hair for months at a time. What's the point? They're dead cells anyway! They're meant to be toyed with!

Also, if I'm going to an island where beautiful pan-Asian dancers have incredibly long and curly hair, I'm going to end up being a little inspired. No day but today to be a self-propelled ninny.

On the downside, though I knew I'd have to hold off on showering for 24 hours, I also forgot that I have to avoid full-on swimming for as long as I can. The last time I got a perm was in 1994, and hair styling technologies haven't created an instant oomph perm kit yet. This means when we land in Oahu, I'll have to park by our piles o' stuff and sun myself while Lyn, Mindy, and Edith go play in the water. Or sit all day at the beach bar.

All this responsibility to keep my newly chemicaled tresses tumbling while contemplating one incoming and one upcoming personal financial wahoos. Oh, sigh...

All A-Twitter
I'm slow on the uptake with all the excitement surrounding Twitter's award at SxSW (By the way, one day I'm going to go to that - for the music - and the Multicultural Marketing Summit, all resources paid. One day.), but I figured this trip to the 808 would be a perfect time to try some mini-moblogging.

I cannot deny that I am easily swayed by 90%-decent social networking innovations. Niche, mainstream, whatever - as long as I see an application for it in my mind's central hub of feeds, I'll join. That being said, Twitter is like Facebook's much abhorred mini-feed. Except you feed it with exactly what you are willing to say. From your phone or your keyboard. Yes, it's another network that you have to register for, but when you're trying to show off how busy and important you are, how big of a sacrifice is that?

When I first heard about it months ago, I thought it was creepy and weird. But I also had the same amount of enthusiasm for capris when they came back in style. Now guess which cut of pants best elongates my legs.

So anyway, Edith's mom is going to be here in about seven hours. I need to get used to not sleeping on my hair. So I best be going now. If you miss me, you basically have no reason to, because I'll be all up on the updates over here.
